Port Jeff NY- It’s Sunday at The Masters and the Mets Lose… Again. Let’s discuss.
Sunday at The Masters.
I could not have been more wrong about Rory McIlroy this week. Coming into the week I thought all the responsibilities that come with being the defending champion at The Masters – along with the back injury he dealt with this season – would be too much for him to overcome. Having gotten the monkey off his back and finally completing the career grand slam, seems to have freed Rory McIlroy up to play with a confidence we just haven’t seen from him in the recent past.
McIlroy entered the weekend with a six-shot lead, the largest in the history of the tournament. After a third round 73, he enters the final round tied for the lead with the Players champion Cameron Young, who shot a blistering 65.
McIlroy looks to become the first player in over 50 years to go back to back at The Masters. Truly incredible. Flashing back to just a little over a year ago, it’s incredible how much the narrative surrounding his legacy has changed. If McIlroy can get it done it’ll be his 6th major and he’ll have fulfilled all the expectations that have ever been placed on him.
One name to keep an eye on chasing the leaders is Justin Rose. He has been incredible at Augusta in his career and if he can get hot early he’s just three off the lead and can really make things interesting coming down the stretch.
Mets Lose… Again

The offense finally woke up – somewhat – but overall it’s been brutal since Juan Soto went on the injured list. Francisco Lindor, Jorge Polanco, Bo Bichette, and Marcus Semien have been horrific, with each having an OPS below .630. The offense woke up a little today; however, it was the pitching—specifically Kodai Senga—who just didn’t have anything. It’s very early in the season, and I do expect some of these guys, namely Bichette and Lindor, to get going. BUT I’m concerned at how thin this lineup is toward the bottom. With Juan Soto out, the offense has some glaring holes that were masked by the top of this order. With the lack of production from those guys, they’re relying on Jared Young to hit third, which certainly isn’t a sustainable option.
It’s getting ugly early in Flushing.
