BRONX, NY – Hey, I don’t have the energy for waxing poetic, or even pathetic, about what’s going on in the world of sports this week. So, instead, I just thought I’d hit you with whatever is ricocheting around in this alleged mind of mine these days. Let’s go.
• I got a fairly huge TV a week ago. I know it’s not big compared to what some people consider home-enterainment-appropriate (it’s 70 inches), but I don’t think I’ll ever want to get anything bigger. I mean, it’s fairly ridiculous. We couldn’t fit it in the car. It had to be delivered. That said, I love it. Football looks great on it. It was not at all expensive. I can’t wait to start watching my favorite fall movies on it, like Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.
• J.J. McCarthy looks great for the Giants… so far. You just wait. No one was even considering McCarthy on the Giants, but they sure will now. As a Vikings fan, I wish him no ill will, but I’m still skeptical. Many years ago the Vikings drafted a QB named Fran Tarkenton and then traded him to the Giants after 6 seasons. In 1972 they traded back for him and he took Minnesota to 3 Super Bowls. So, worst case scenario, maybe McCarthy turns out to be something decent and the Vikes give the Giants a pile of garbage for him.
• This is a pretty entertaining World Series! Despite Tampa clawing to stay alive last night, the Brewers are clearly the better team and are winning this thing.
• The Dallas Cowboys beat the team that used to be the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Philly was without their starting quarterback, without their #1 receiver, with a hobbled starting running back, and a defense that appears to have checked out. Jerry Jones and his doofus son celebrated this win like they were partying on Bourbon Street. What a joke. Can’t wait for the next Cowboys loss to some also-ran.
• Hey, I see the Knicks finally won a game! Yay, Knicks! You still have one of the worst owners in all of sports, but it’s hard not to like this team.
• David Stearns still has a job. Think about that anytime anyone you know tells you that they just got laid off. This world is not fair.
That’s about all I got today. Come back tomorrow for Buddy Diaz, who will either be delivering a eulogy for the Eagles or getting excited about the Knicks. Or maybe he’ll choose to discuss the Yankees‘ giving GM Brian Cashman an extension. Who knows?
