MetLifeless, NJ – Mercifully for the Giants and Jets, the regular season is over. Is there any hope of a quirk turn toward respectability? It seems as likely as a successful barbecue at Short Matt’s. Caution, QB misery ahead.
Big Blue Poo
Here’s the Giants’ season in a nutshell: Boogie Basham jumped offside on a 4th down when the Eagles clearly were not going to snap it. Then Kayvon Thibodeaux had a 3rd down roughing the passer penalty on a play when it would have been 4th and 6. These were the two smartest plays made by a Giants’ defender in months.
The plays kept the Eagles moving on a 16-play, 6:34 FG drive that virtually eliminated the Giants chances of pulling off another accidental win and costing them more draft spots.
When I opined to my friend that the two penalties were intentional, he said “How would you know?” And you know what, he’s right, there’s no way to know. They did plenty of that stuff by accident… Because they suck.
But they’re sticking with the Schoen/Daboll brain trust. There seems to be no deeper logic in this decision than Mara is just tired of firing GMs and coaches, and/or finding new ones every two years. This does not seem like an ideal situation. These two might reach for a QB in a desperate attempt to give the fan base some hope and save their jobs.
For now, we have Tommy DeVito to thank for not having Daniels or Maye. And Drew Lock to thank for missing out on the top two picks in ‘25. Meaningless wins that may set them back a decade. But they sure were fun!
Or maybe the plan is to tank one more year for Arch Manning:
Be Ass for Arch
Mail it in for Manning
I’ll work on that.
J-E-S-T
If I told you before the season that Aaron Rodgers would play all 17 games and throw for 28 TDs with 11 ints, how many wins would you have expected? A lot more than five. I would have said playoffs.
When the Jets got Rodgers they said, “We don’t need him to be prime Rodgers, with our D, we just need him to be last season in Green Bay Rodgers.” Well, that’s pretty much what they got, but it was still an epic failure.
Is there any chance the Jets run it back with Aaron one more time? It seems unlikely, but in the words of the great Chris Rock, “You are only as faithful as your options.” And the Jets don’t seem like they’re going to have lots of great options.
We saw a little of the Rodgers Adams magic late in the season and I wouldn’t totally rule out one more go. Get a competent coach, try to load up the o-line, build around the run with Breece and Allen, play action passing, and defense. It’s not the worst plan in the world.
Diary of a Wimpy QB
With the strong season by Darnold and signing of Daniel Jones in Minnesota, there is speculation that JJ McCarthy could be available. But did you see him on the sideline on Sunday night in shorts? Bro needs to hit the gym immediately.
I thought it was the ball boy or someone’s teenage kid who begged to be at A-Rodg’s possible last game. I’ve seen more muscle at a Steve Urkel convention. It’s hard to see the kid handling #NFL punishment with that frame.
I’m out. Come back tomorrow for Angry Ward, if you want more references to Steve Urkel, that is.
