STAMFORD, CT – It was a ho-hum Wild Card Weekend, with five of the six games being pretty noncompetitive. The Commanders vs Bucs was the only one-score game, and the only game where the lower seed advanced. None of the other five losers broke 14 points. Still, we’ve got some things to yap about, including the ongoing Saquon Travesty and an Allen v Jackson MVP Matchup. Hut 1, Omaha, Hike.
Sad Saq
I understand why the Giants let Barkley go when they did. But watching him thrive on a good team makes it look dumber every week.
He passed on chances to break a single game record – “I’d rather let the young guys eat.” He passed on a chance to break the single season rushing record against his old team. And for those bitching about Saquon having one extra game, he could have broken the record with far fewer carries than Dickerson. Then in the WC game he had a chance to put the game away on a long TD run, but he went down after getting the first down. The game was won and that’s all he cares about.
The man is a pro’s pro, a quality person, and a fantastic back. The Giants should have paid him and franchised Jones. Doing it the other/wrong way will haunt this franchise for decades and haunt Joe Schoen to his grave.
John Mara said he would have trouble sleeping at night if Barkley went to the Eagles. Well, he must be having nightmares of Freddy Kreuger in a green sweater methodically murdering Giant greats, along with his family’s legacy.
L-Jax vs J-All, MVP Battle
Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson had equally workmanlike games on Sunday. They were good but didn’t need to do too much. Both games felt like little appetizers to the main course in the divisional round when they play on Sunday night.
How do you choose an MVP between these two, as both are deserving? Lamar’s stats are better. I think it comes down to how much value you give to Lamar having King Henry by his side while Allen has done it without as much help. Not to mention, Allen’s stats are hurt a bit by playing in the elements in Buffalo. I’d like to see it go to Allen since he has none, and Jackson has two. But you can’t go wrong with that vote.
They are both so fun to watch because they do things QBs should not do, but they make it work. The latest example was Jackson holding the ball way too long as the final seconds of the first half ticked away. “Throw it away and take the field goal” everyone was yelling at the TV. A sack ends the quarter with no points. But he calmly found Hill for the TD.
We’re set up for a classic on Sunday night in Buffalo.
Case of the Wild Card Mondays
I think the new format with the Monday night game stinks. Let’s go back to three games on Saturday and on Sunday. They screwed up one of the best sports weekends of the year. We don’t need to greed it up by extending it to Monday. I don’t care if the Monday night game gets better ratings, I want to glue my butt to the couch for 48 hours straight.
Make it happen, NFL.
Speaking of making things happen, Angry Ward is here tomorrow. He told you the Vikings would lose.
