The Bronx, NY – I’m back for a second Friday in a row as Short Matt is off to Fire Island to get hitched. Good thing Kim Davis doesn’t work in New York. But congrats to Short Matt and his lovely bride. It was a weird sports night around these parts yesterday. We’ had our first rain in months yesterday so the Yanks and Jays were rained out.
The Mets and Braves suffered a rain delay in which they lost power in the truck and were unable to broadcast from Hotlanta. SNY was showing the Fox Sports South feed for an inning or so until they sorted out their technical difficulties. When the game finally got going, the Mets did what they have been doing and jumped out to a lead against the bottom-feeding Braves. The ageless and ever-expanding Bartolo Colon helped out his own cause with an rbi single in the fourth inning.
Over on NBC the NFL season kicked off in Foxborough as the Patriots cheated their way to an early lead. The Pittsburgh Steelers coaches’ headsets weren’t working in the first quarter. More proof that the Patriots only stop cheating when they’re asleep. Hey, I guess if you’re not cheating, you’re not trying. The Pats were helped by the Pitt kicker getting the yips early and missing a couple of makeable field goals. The last I checked in on this one, Gronkowski was destroying the Steelers.
The Yankees and Blue Jays will play a double header tomorrow. It should be interesting to see what the Yankee braintrust decides to do with the lineups for two games back-to-back. Half of the Yankees ancient roster can’t even play consecutive days, let alone two games on the same day. With the expanded roster, look for a lot of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to be on the field for the second game. The Bombers enter tonight’s tilt 1.5 games behind the Bluebirds. Counting this four game set, the Yanks and Jays go head-to-head seven more times this season. It is still all to play for in the AL East.
Finally, only ten days until the New York Rangers’ first preseason game. Hockey is almost back. That’s it for me today. Gonna keep it short and sweet-ish. Congratulations to Short Matt on the nuptials this weekend.
