BRONX, NY – Most current MTM contributors haven’t been around long enough, but I remember the early days of this site when Short Matt ran an impossibly tight ship and demanded his slave laborers get their columns done as early as humanly possible the night BEFORE they were to be posted… if not sooner. But, these days, Short Matt himself doesn’t even bother to post until he rolls out of bed and shakes off his hummus kale Budweiser smoothie hangover. So here I am at 11 am on a Saturday filling the void until Management gets its act together.
Cardinals and Cubs Lose
Yesterday, both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs exited the NL playoffs. It was sweet of these two rivals to turn their keys and end it at the same time. The Cubs and their beyond anemic offense lost to Miami, of all teams. No Bartman to blame this time for “The Good Guys.” The Cardinals thankfully got blanked by the WAY more entertaining San Diego Padres. So, things and shaping up nicely on the Senior Circuit.
RIP Bob Gibson
Speaking of the Cards, their legendary pitcher Bob Gibson passed away yesterday that the age of 84. I’ve seen old video of him pitching before, but seeing it again yesterday, he looked like he would be every bit as dominant in today’s game. Anyway, he was great and his passing needed to be mentioned.
F**k the Jets
We all know that the Jets suck and that Adam Gase is garbage and D-coordinator Gregg Williams (nice extra “G” there, Douchebag) should be in jail, but on Thursday night they really pissed me off. I had them in a weekly picks pool where you pick every game with the point spread. The Jets were covering until the very end when they gave up a long touchdown to Melvin Gordon while Denver was trying to run out the clock. Screw the Jets and Trump’s knob-polisher Woody Johnson for eternity.
That’s all for now. I’m sure Short Matt will be along shortly. Later.
