Ebs’ One Big Thing: NFL Parity

Saratoga Springs, NY – Have you had the opportunity to catch Scott Van Pelt’s new midnight SportsCenter SVPshow?

Well, the theme for this week’s column comes from Van Pelt’s new nightly show. Each night Van Pelt does his One Big Thing segment, which is when he highlight’s the “one big thing” for him that day in sports.

So for me, it’s my reaction from Sunday’s NFL action. And boy, there was a lot of parity!

Before this week, when was the last time that the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers all won on the same day? Yeah, I can’t remember, either.

And after two weeks, it seems like just about anything and everything might happen this season.

AP FALCONS GIANTS FOOTBALL S FBN USA NJThe Seattle Seahawks, New York GiantsBaltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles are all 0-2, the Dez Bryant-less, Tony Romo-less and DeMarco Murray-less Dallas Cowboys sit atop the NFC East, the Jacksonville Jaguars have a share of the AFC South and Johnny Manziel has more wins this season than Drew Brees and Andrew Luck combined. Who saw all of this coming? Not me.

I understand it’s only been two weeks, but this business is about making snap judgements about what we see. And here’s mine from after two weeks…. The Super Bowl is up for grabs.

Yes, you can make a case for New England and Green Bay, but each team has its flaws. New England has its IMG_1964inexpereince along the offensive line and Green Bay has its health concern on offense.

But besides these two teams, not many others have stepped up to the plate, which means it’ll certainly be an exciting 15 weeks of football!

That’s it for now…

P.S. The New York Yankees still have its little brother in Queens’ number! Maybe next time, Mets!
