WEST PITTSTON, PA – The Super Bowl is less than a week away and I couldn’t be any less excited.
Why?
The freaking New England Patriots.
We all know how this is going to end. Tom Brady is going to win his sixth Lombardi Trophy. Who wants that? Not I.
Truly, I’m hoping for the opposite, but let’s be real, is Nick Foles really going to beat the mighty Patriots?
I don’t care how good the Philadelphia Eagles defense is. If Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson can’t do it, how can anyone have confidence in Foles?
If Carson Wentz was playing, sure, they’d definitely have a shot. Heck, maybe Philly would even be the favorite. But he’s not.
Not to mention, Philadelphia has to play against the referees too. Ask the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Jets and Houston Texans how that went.
Oh wait, never mind. I can tell you. Not good.
As a Bills fan, I’ve come to terms with the fact that you can’t bet against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. I try every season, sometimes even more than once, and I fail. Until Brady starts showing signs of slowing down, it’s just not going to happen.
Brady could have lost his hand leading up to the AFC Championship Game and New England still would have won. By the way, I’m pretty sure Brady’s hand injury was just Curt Schilling’s “bloody sock” all over again.
Do I expect this game to be close?
Yes. Philadelphia should be able the run the ball effectively with Jay Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount on extra rest. But at some point the Patriots will take away the running game and force Foles to beat them. That’s what Belichick does after all – take away what you do best.
Also, does Philadelphia have the ability to shut down Rob Gronkowski? I’m not sure. No one really can.
The running game will be just as important for the Patriots as it is Philadelphia. If New England can get Dion Lewis and Rex Burkhead going, it can mix in some play action, which Philadelphia seems to be susceptible to.
Patriots win 27-20.
Maybe, just maybe, Bill Belichick will be able to ride off into the sunset after this.
