FREEHOLD, NJ – The NFL Season started with a typical Tom Brady comeback against a surprising Dallas Cowboys team. Today the rest of the league kicks off with some intriguing match-ups. Its time for my NFL Week One Picks along with a Mets v Yanks recap.
The New York Jets travel to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers. That in itself sounds about as exciting as watching rugby, however the reason to watch this Battle of the Irrelevant is that Sam Darnold will be behind center against the team who threw him out of the Meadowlands in order to draft Zach Wilson. The Carolina QB will be be throwing to a familiar target, Robby Anderson who would love to show the J-E-T-S that they made a mistake not retaining him in 2020. Anderson caught 95 passes for 1096 yards last season. Not too shabby for another weapon sent to the scrap yard by Gang Green. Add in Christian McCaffrey and this will be a long day for the Jets.
Carolina 24 Jets 14
The New York Giants vs Denver Broncos makes me want to paint my living room and watch it dry. Neither team has a good quarterback. Teddy Bridgewater reminds me of Ryan Fitzpatrick, sans the magic. Danny Dimes Jones will undoubtedly throw a few game killing picks thus ruining the return of Saquon Barkley. Bridgewater will do just enough to win as the Denver defense proves to be too much for Big Blue.
Broncos 21 Big Blow 13
Ben Roethlisberger leads the Pittsburgh Steelers into Buffalo to take on the defending AFC East Champion Bills and Josh Allen . While Pittsburgh’s defense is good , it will not be good enough to defeat Allen, who can beat you in the air or with his legs. Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley and Emmanuel Sanders will rack up those fantasy points against agingJoe Haden and friends. Najee Harris will find it tough racking up many yards versus a stingy Bills defense.
Bills 28 Steelers 24
The Game of the Week will be Baker Mayfield vs Patrick Mahomes . The Brownies return to slay the beast that eliminated them from the playoffs. The Chiefs are favored playing at home, however, I believe that the Browns will pound the ball with the best running combo in the NFL, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. They will open up the passing game, which returns Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. Mahomes will get his points throwing to Tyreek “Thrill” Hill and Travis Kelce and handing the ball off to Clyde Edwards-Helaire behind an improved offense line. This should be a good contest.
Browns 30 Chiefs 28
The Yankees ended their losing streak at 7 as they knock off the Mets 8-7 behind a two-dinger performance by Aaron Judge. This series is basically the playoffs for two teams who have choked down the stretch.
Chime in if you wish to opine and come back on Monday for the man who never chokes, Junoir Blaber.
