SPANISH HARLEM – The New York Yankees lost last night but there is still a lot to like from this team. Fans dreaded seeing them lose a series to the Baltimore Orioles to begin the season, which only reminded them of last year. Much has changed since then and you can only imagine how excited people are in New York that the Yanks and Mets seem like legit contenders. Sure, it’s a long season and losing streaks will happen but thats baseball and so far, this feels like a different year from last.
Let me Discuss Why.
Anthony Rizzo
Though it seems now that Rizzo’s peak is coming to an end, it’s hard not to think that what he provided during his hot streak had a lot to do with why they were winning. Left handed bat that doesn’t strike out a lot… music to my ears. Give me great defense too and I will cherish you. So I love Rizzo and what he brings to this team.
Aaron Judge
If Judge continues to hit the way he has and stays healthy, he will get paid. He is playing right field and center, on most nights and becomes more valuable by the second. I don’t even want to think about the type of money he could be looking at.
Giancarlo Stanton
No player on the Yankees has changed his narrative more than Stanton. There was a time when people dragged that man through the gutter, disappointed that he didn’t hit a home run every time he stepped into the plate. Being hurt a bunch didn’t help and that’s a big part of the reason he was disliked at times. Now, you won’t hear a bad word about him from even the worst Yankees fan.
Michael King
What can you say… he looks like a great starter impersonating a great reliever. If he continues on this trajectory, it’s only a matter of time before you see King getting starts. When you think about injuries and the amount of innings they will have Luis Severino pitch, you can bet that Mike will be starting a bunch of games before it’s all said and done.
That’s it for now, come back tomorrow for Cam James, who is singing the [St Louis] Blues after his team lost to Angry Ward’s Wild.
