NEW YORK, NY – Last year at this time we were pumped for the Rangers and Knicks trying to make deep runs into June. A year later and the Rangers didn’t even make the playoffs, and things don’t look all that great for the Knicks. There is a tough decision coming up for the Giants and everyone knows exactly what they Shed-eur. No? I tried.

Second Round Ceiling

The Knickerbockers made some big moves in the offseason, highlighted by the additions of Towns and Bridges. The added firepower was supposed to help them compete with the Celtics. Welp, they won exactly one more game than the season before, and lost all four games to the Celtics, as well as all four to the upstart Cavs. They scored a bit more, but they gave up more points, too. They beat up on the bad teams, but haven’t given us any reason to think they can hang with the big boys.

GMs plan, God laughs.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Knicks lost in the first round to the Pistons, another team they’ve struggled with this season, losing three of four. The Pistons are a young, athletic team with nothing to lose.

If the Knicks do get by Detroit, expect a quick exit in the second-round vs Boston and a lot of offseason questions.

Blueshirts Bombs

It was about four years ago in May of 2021 when Dolan lost patience and fired JD Davidson and Jeff Gorton in the midst of a promising rebuild. He thought they were building a team with too much skill and not enough grit. Shortly after they went out and overpaid for Barclay Goodrow.

Fast forward four years and the foundation that Gorton and Davidson help build is in shambles. The older players have regressed quickly and many of the younger players have not developed as expected. I’m looking at you, K’Andre and Lafreniere.

Drury unceremoniously dumped Goodrow before the season, sent Captain Jacob Trouba packing, and tried to trade longest tenured player, Chris Kreider. The disrespectful treatment of veteran players has contributed to poor team atmosphere, and it has showed on the ice. They went from best record in the league to missing the playoffs. Oh, and Gorton is one point from locking up a playoff spot with the Canadiens.

Ouch. Dolan is a douche. Time to clean house.

Draft Dilemma for G-Men

I know I’ve written about it a lot, but the most interesting story in NY right now is what the Giants will do with the third pick. Shedeur or not to Shedeur, that is the question.

The cons argue that it has to be a sure thing at number three and Sanders ain’t that. But the pros argue that you’re nothing without a QB in this league and if he’s the best one available, you have to take him and hope for the best.

The big negative on SS seems to be that he holds on to the ball as long as my dog Chief hangs on to the empty peanut butter jar, making sure to get every ounce. And Sanders doesn’t have the elite athleticism or arm strength to get away with it.

Yeah, that doesn’t sound promising to me. But it’s better than watching Russ cook, I suppose. Giants’ brass has one final workout scheduled with Sanders to try to talk themselves into him.

Ben Whitney

Fun times for the Giants. The pressure is on, Joe. With the Saquon debacle under his belt, he has an opportunity to go down in Giants’ lore as the worst GM of all time.

That’s it for me. Come back tomorrow for more fun times with Angry Ward.
