SPANISH HARLEM – Baseball is back and while it still feels weird that the season now starts in March instead of April, it means regular season games earlier than in the past. The New York Yankees are on their forever quest to win another World Series, while Steve Cohen and the Mets want this season to be their year. Sorry Mets fans, you will always be in the Yankees shadows but that doesn’t mean they can’t win it all. Let’s take a look at both teams today.
New York Yankees
They are running it back with basically the same team they had last season, with some changes in the bullpen. They will hopefully get Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole back at some point bearing any further setbacks. Keep in mind that this is same team that was tied for first place to end the season, but Toronto had the better record in their match ups, giving them the edge. Baltimore and Boston got better during the offseason, making the AL East as competitive as it’s ever been. The Yankees will be in a dogfight all year long but if they can stay healthy and add some bullpen help during the season, they will be in a position to contend for a championship.
New York Mets

Changes, Changes, Changes… this will be a different Mets team than last year. With Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso gone, it will be strange for some to see in the early going. They added Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien and Jorge Polanco to replace what was lost with fans hoping that they are better off. Last season was a year to forget and with some young promising pitchers in the minors, this could be the start of a foundation for success. Sure, fans will freak out when things go sideways but that is just part of being a Mets fans.
That’s it for now, please come back tomorrow for more great content from Jackson Sternberg.
