Angry Ward Wednesday: Brewers All the Way, the Return of the NBA, and the NFC East is Cray-Cray

BRONX, NY – I’m not gonna lie, there’s been a LOT going on in Wardville the past few weeks and I’ve kinda lost track of time and various important things that are happening in this crazy world. Sports has also taken a back seat. My Vikings had last weekend off, so maybe that was part of it. Anyway, I’ll do my best to cobble together a column for today. We’ll see how it goes.

The World Series. Yesterday, in this space, Aristotle “Mugsy” Sakellaridis discussed the lack of enthusiasm in Tampa (and all Florida, really) for Rays baseball, and that’s just one reason why I’ll be root, root, rooting for the Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series. As it stands this series is a nightmare for Mets Baseball Ops Oaf, David Stearns. His former team vs. a team with Freddy Peralta, a player he traded at rock bottom who is now pitching like a rock star. I’m delighted that Stearns is having to suffer through this, it’s the least he can do. Anyway, Tampa (the city) sucks. Milwaukee is actually a surprisingly fun city, and I always liked those Brewers teams in the ’70s and early ’80s. Guys like Gorman Thomas and Sixto Lezcano and Mike Caldwell and, of course Yount and Molitor. Also, lets not forget George “Boomer” Scott and Ben Oglivie. Cool teams. Go Brew Crew!

NBA Season Begins. Yesterday the 2026-27 NBA season tipped off with three games. The one everyone here really cares about was the Knicks taking on the Sixers at the The Garden, on a night when they raised their banner. Screw James Dolan, but good for the rest of the Knicks. As I write this, it’s a five-point Knickerbockers lead in the 3rd quarter. Still, it seems early to be discussing basketball. So, I’m done. [SPOILER ALERT: LeBron & the Sixers won by… six]

The NFC East: Your Unintentional Comedy Source. I can’t get enough of the mess that is the NFC East. I mean, for starters, the Giants are in first place! LOL! I’m sorry, but that’s funny. Their starting QB (The Human Medical Tent) is out for the year, their idiot spitfire running back has a raging case of fumble-itis, and it looks like JJ McCarthy may wrest the QB job from Jameis Winston. This is gonna be fun to watch. Meanwhile Washington’s head coach is one more brain fart by his team from being fired and Philadelphia is a full-on Greek Tragedy. But, I saved the best for last. Jerry_Jones, Meet_The_Matts, Angry Ward CalhounThe Dallas Cowboys are easily the funniest team in a hysterical division. I dislike them so much that I was actually rooting for the Packers to beat them last Sunday… and they did. Another fun couple of facts about the NFC East, 1) No team has won a game in two weeks and 2) Every team has a negative point differential. Whee!

Okay, that’s about it for me today. Come back tomorrow for Buddy Diaz, who will hopefully be previewing next Monday Night’s clash between the Cowboys and Eagles. It ain’t gonna be pretty.

Angry Ward, who has admirers at the New York Times, is the quintessential angry sports fan but for one exception... he's flat-out funny. And the angrier he gets, the more amusing his work becomes. Psychiatrists say, "Angry Ward's 'anger' is a direct result of "Bronx/Mets syndrome: growing up in the Bronx as a Mets fan." As if that weren't enough, his Minnesota North Stars abandoned him for Dallas, forcing him to embrace The Wild the way Nancy Pelosi embraces Mitch McConnell at charity events. And while his Vikings only tease him with success, his Golden State Warriors actually win these days. A-Dubya is MTM's longest-tenured indentured servant, its Larry David and quite simply, "The Franchise." (Junoir Blaber disputes this). Vent, curse and giggle with him on Angry Ward Wednesdays.
