Fela Kuti, Buffalo Tommy Perez, Baylor University Lawsuit, John Tortorella’s Sick Dog

EL BRONX, EL BARRIO – Parked the car and and grabbed my phone and saw the bat Matt signal ominously lighting up Mattville. The MTM signal fittingly is a text because “We ain’t rich!” What did the alert our fearless leader read? “Thanks for pitch hitting tomorrow.” Well, I actually wanted to be Pinch-Hit Matt, so now I guess I am. Anyway, in keeping with the new routine/gig, I will give you a Song of the Week, dabble in Politics and then shift to Sports. Today’s Pinch-Hit Topics: Fela Kuti, Buffalo Tommy Perez, Baylor University Lawsuit, and Torts Sick Dog.

Let’s begin with the music…

Song of the Week: Been so busy with the baby and listening to podcasts, I haven’t listened to any much music. So my research was limited to songs that I listen to during the week. The artist that I have played regularly is Nigerian African Jazz legend Fela Kuti. I play Fela when I am giving my daughter a bath or trying to put her sleep. With that, my Song of the Week is my daughter’s bath-time song: Water got no enemy!

Now for the sports, kinda…

Buffalo Tommy Perez: I was watching the show Real Time, the other day. On it was former, as in Obama’s Labor Secretary, Thomas Perez. I liked how he sounded and I looked him up and he was from Buffalo. I was shocked to hear someone from Buffalo actually did something with himself. The only other guy I had heard off was Kyle “Coach Eric Taylor” Chandler – but he left as a kid, Perez is Buffalo-raised. He is now running for president of the DNC and like a true Buffaloian, I expect him to come up short, I mean it is heartbreak city. But maybe he can actually win, for Buffalo’s sake.

Baylor University: A lawsuit filed Friday by a Baylor University graduate alleges 31 Baylor football players committed 52 acts of rape between 2011 and 2014. My first thought was, Jesus that is a lot! This wasn’t the Badlands or Mad Max so what the hell is going on there. If these charges are true, I hope everyone of those players gets nailed to the wall, as well as the coaching staff and admin!

Torts sick dog: John Tortorella is an intense hockey coach. He is good but he can divisive and you have to have a strong of team with the right personalities for his in-your-face, tough guy style to work. So far it is working well for the Columbus Blue Jackets, who are tops in the Metro division. However, it appears that Torts has a soft side and he shows it to his dogs. He loves his one dog so much that since it got sick, he didn’t coach the game on Thursday and will miss the NHL All-Star game this weekend to be with his sick dog. The dog belongs to his Army Ranger son. Here’s the full story.

That’s all I have… Please feel free to leave your thoughts below and come back tomorrow for our version of Soft Torts, Cheesy Bruin. You can find us on Twitter – @JunoirBlaber & @MeetTheMatts, Instagram -@MeetTheMatts and Facebook–  Meet The Matts.
