Monday Afternoon QB: Finishing Sports Seasons Under Covid-19

EL BARRIO, EL FALLS – Hello. Happy Monday, sports fan… Well, the President looks like the Rich Kotite of Disaster Management and the NY Governor went from looking mediocre and not as good as his dad – think Kyle Shanahan – to Tom Coughlin in handling disasters. But you didn’t come here for political analysis and I’m writing this post about how the global sports leagues  should handle the Coronavirus and this current season. Let’s get started on the menu today: Finishing The Season Under Covid-19.

NFL: Lucky for these guys they don’t start till much later in the year, so the whole scare will be over. It might affect preseason games but they’ll be fine.

MLB: They have already pushed back the start of the season, which may be like a strike-shortened season. I can see anywhere from 80 to 100 games, which is still pretty good and leaves them in better shape than most other leagues in the world.

NBA: Suspend the season and just jump right into the playoffs. Wherever anybody stood in terms of the standings for the top eight spots in each conference will start the playoffs. They just need to  start it, figure out any tie-breakers and go from there, as it is the quickest and easiest way.

NHL: I see no reason for the NHL to do something different than the NBA. They have played almost the whole schedule and their season’s almost finished, so yeah – just go with the top 8  teams in each conference and take it from there.

MLS: They’ve got a really long season, similar to baseball. I’m thinking they can just play a shortened season of only 15 to 20 games – probably 15. I say just take it from there and straight into the playoffs.

MLR: First they suspended, then they canceled, killing Short Matt’s relationship with his landlord and credit card companies. They are going to wait until 2021 and I can’t blame them. For such a young league, there was no point in taking the financial burden, likely losses, to try and force a season 1 when it wasn’t going to happen. So see you guys next year.

EPL and European Soccer and Rugby: I say these guys should void the season. Just cancel it and start next year with everybody’s previous place from the 2018/2019 season. A fresh start and nobody gets relegated.
