SPANISH HARLEM – This has been quite the week for quarterbacks in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers gets a new deal and Russell Wilson gets traded to the Denver Broncos. Its doesn’t stop there though, as Carson Wentz was also moved to the Washington Commanders, let’s focus on that for now.
Where do I start? Okay, the draft it is.
I remember when Carson Wentz was selected 2nd overall in the 2016 draft and was as excited as a kid in a candy store. When the Philadelphia Eagles traded Donovan McNabb, there was a sense of hopelessness that surrounded the organization because they didn’t have a top notch quarterback to compete in a league that requires a top quarterback to be competitive. Then Philly traded up to the 2nd pick and you just knew they would select one.
I was hyped because I saw all the videos, he was tall and mobile with a cannon for an arm. The talent was there but as Eagles fans saw throughout the years, you need more than just talent. He had one amazing season in year two and all seemed on the up and up. I was wrong, dead wrong. It got worse and it was sad to see because I really wanted him to excel but I knew it was all over when he wasn’t able to handle the addition of Jalen Hurts.
Mind you, I wanted Wentz to be the QB of the future. I wanted to win with him. But his lack of competitiveness really showed during that 2020 season. Instead of being the person that wanted to prove people wrong when he was benched, he took the easy way out and asked for a trade. So, I was done and happy the Iggles moved on… he didn’t to fight for what he wanted. Good riddance. Now he’s a year removed and playing for his 3rd team in 2 years.
Good luck with that Washington.
That’s it for now, come back tomorrow for Different Matt.
Until next time…
