PORT JEFF, NY– Greetings. Let’s take a look at today’s topics: Mets Stumble, Giants and NFL Preseason.

Mets Stumble

After their hot stretch, the Mets have come back down to Earth, dropping the first two of their series in Seattle to Angry Ward’s Mariners. I wouldn’t panic, though, as this past week has been absolutely brutal from a travel perspective. While the Mets and Braves continue to struggle, the teams they’re fighting for a Wild Card spot with, the Padres (winners of seven straight and 9 of ten) and the Diamondbacks (8-2 in their last 10), never seem to lose. On top of that, the Giants and Cubs have caught fire and are now two additional team vying for a Wild Card birth. This race is constantly changing and will likely come down to the final weekend of the season.

Giants preseason reaction

I never know what exactly to take away from these games because they mean nothing. However, the Giants did win their first preseason game 14-3 over the Lions. In their quest to replace Saquon Barkley, the Giants signed Devin Singletary this offseason and drafted Tyrone Tracy. Singletary didn’t see any action in this game but he’s been a solid RB for a few years and should be a nice replacement. The backs who did get action, Tyrone Tracy and Eric Gray, looked very solid as they compete for the RB-2 job behind Singletary. This Giants offense as a whole should look entirely different this upcoming season and there are some reasons to be optimistic. They drafted Malik Nabers, who was an incredible prospect coming out of LSU and has already made several highlight plays at Training Camp. And… Daniel Jones should be healthy. However, it’ll all come down to the O-line. If it’s improved this offense could surprise a lot of people.

Other Preseason Notables.

Jacob Sternberg

The top two picks in the NFL draft made their brief debuts yesterday. Caleb Williams looked pretty good for Chicago in the few drives he played. I can’t wait to see Williams week 1, with his full arsenal of weapons. This offense could be incredible with a WR core of DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze. Williams is set up for success like no other rookie QB has ever been before and should hit the ground running immediately.

As for the number two pick in this past draft, Jayden Daniels for the Commanders also looked good in his brief appearance for the Commanders. Daniels is a dual threat QB who will likely have to rely heavily on his legs with the Commanders offensive line looking like a disaster, after allowing a historical number of sacks last year. Given that and other roster/coaching concerns I have with Washington I wouldn’t be surprised if this was more of a developmental year for Daniels, as Washington looks to build a better roster around him in the coming years.

That’s it for now, feel free to leave your thoughts below and come back tomorrow for the Sports Rain Man, Junoir Blaber.
