NEW YORK, NY – Well, the Mets did it. They had a flashback to who they were in the not-too-distant past.
After a six-game winning streak that had fans daring to believe again — checking the standings, dusting off their 1986 VHS tapes, the Mets handed Tampa Bay Rays a win.
In poetic fashion, the streak ended with the one poop inning; the type usually reserved for mid-July doubleheaders. The bats were good but the pitching of Paul Blackburn and Max Kranick went colder than your ex’s text replies.
But hey, six wins is still something! That’s one more than the Yankees had last week.
Meanwhile, across the hardwood universe, the NBA Finals are now locked at 2–2, like a tug-of-war between two toddlers fighting over a juice box — with fewer timeouts and better sneakers.
The Thunder and Pacers are trading haymakers like it’s a Rocky sequel, and it’s better than most thought it would be.
With two games left (possibly three), this series could go anywhere. Double-overtime buzzer-beater? A game decided by a controversial tech foul because someone sneezed too hard near a ref? Yes, please.
So what’s next?
For the Mets: hopefully a rebound, or at least a game where the bullpen doesn’t resemble a fire drill. For the NBA: chaos, drama, and hopefully Charles Barkley saying something so weird it trends on X for 48 hours.
