NEW YORK, NY – It’s only a matter of time before a player makes his way unto the N.Y. Yankees and demands a uniform number which is retired. With 22 retired numbers, it’s bound to happen with this Generation Z takeover, who have no clue on the definition of respect.
With a new wave of Millennials taking over the front office and coaching staffs of MLB teams who have yet to pay their dues, the past will be put to pasture. The evidence is right on the playing field where results don’t matter. When .206 hitters are rewarded with a salary increase and bonehead plays being committed by players who are not led to the bus headed to Triple-A, it all spells tolerance is the norm.
Over in New Jersey, the Giants football team, who has as much of a storied history as the Yankees, have gotten a taste of the new generation. Their number one pick of 2025 Abdul Carter, a linebacker was rewarded a 45,255,180 dollar contract. He demanded to wear number 56. The number has been put out of circulation by the team for the legacy of Lawrence Taylor. L.T.‘s response to Carter was to forge your own legacy. He told the player drafted out of Penn State “get another number and then make it famous,” Carter chose number 51.
A couple of years ago, Carter assaulted a tow truck driver who had the audacity to tow his parked car from an unauthorized area. The 6 foot, 4 inch, 252 lb Carter pulled the driver from his truck, threw him to the ground and held him down. The driver wound up with a fractured rib while Carter got a misdemeanor.
Since then, Carter has been benched twice by the Giants for tardiness and missing team meetings, and walk throughs. According to Giants Defensive Coordinator, Charlie Bullen, Carter has been watching more film, coming in earlier and staying later. Duh! Isn’t that what the rookie is supposed to be doing?
Let’s keep catering to these sensitive, spoiled youngsters. After all, let’s remember the putz who came to the Yankees and demanded to grow his beard back.
