BLOOMINGBURG, NY – Yeah, I went 2-2 last week on my Cheesy Bruin’s FREE NFL Picks segment but the highlight of my Sunday was the prime seats, courtesy of our very own Grote2DMax, for the Boston Bruins/New York Rangers game at MSG. My beloved Bruins are smoking hot to start the NHL campaign and pretty much shellacked the Blueshirts. I’m looking to channel my inner Bruin for this week’s selections.
FAVORITE I’m trying to stick with what team I know best and that’s the Dallas Cowboys. Whether I’m picking for or against them, I’ve been pretty accurate in opining on their games. It’s still befuddling to think the J-E-T-S beat the Cowboys a few weeks ago because Gangrene has set in with that offense while the defense desperately attempts to keep them competitive. The ‘Boys were favored by ten in that game and return to the same house of horrors but face inter-division rival Giants on Monday Night Football as seven point choices. There should be no letdown here and little surprise from the opponent. The Giants defense sucks and Dallas is the league leader in yards-per-game, so there should be little problem in putting up points under the Met Life lights. The ‘Boys are returning to health, come off the bye week, and will implement the newly acquired Michael Bennett on defense. Not even Jason Garrett can screw this one up. The Pick? Dallas -7 over NEW YORK GIANTS
UNDERDOG Lots of bettors like home underdogs. What’s not to love about backing the home team and getting a few points in the process? Tulane is known as the Green Wave but in the NFL the Packers are just that so far this season. Did you see those running backs used as receiver so effectively for the Pack in their win over the Chiefs last week? Aaron Rodgers is rolling without Davante Adams and that can only go on so long without having the wide out available. There are more reasons to bet the visitors in this game but I sense this is a spot for a letdown after Green Bay traveled to Kaycee and beat them in primetime. Philip Rivers perks up against a Packers defense that has been less than stout in recent weeks as the Bolts find the win column after losing the last three at home. Outright win. The Pick? LOS ANGELES CHARGERS +4 over Green Bay Packers
OVER Outside of their brutal loss to the Cowboys a few weeks ago, the Eagles have had little problem scoring points this year. Doug Pederson is a bright offensive mind. The team also allows their fair share in the same breath. The Bears visit the City of Brotherly Love (ha, that’s far from the truth) with question marks all over the offensive side of the ball. Mitch Trubisky is close to losing the starting quarterback spot to Chase Daniel and if these rumblings can light a fire under his arse to engineer just a few touchdown drives and one field goal, I feel safe in this choice. The Pick? Chicago/PHILADELPHIA OVER 41.5
UNDER There’s a battle of similar teams as Oakland plays host to Detroit. Both are exceeding expectations to a degree at this point as the offenses have led the way but those defenses leave a lot to be desired. The odds-makers understand this and have set the total at a whopping 50.5. That’s just too much and to ask Derek Carr to continue his solid play the last few weeks is a tall order no matter how porous the Lions dee is. It’ll be close to the number but we get the cash. The Pick? Detroit/OAKLAND UNDER 50.5
