Big Ben Tuesday: NCAA Tourney Weirdness, a Kappo Kakko Sighting, Yankees’ Rotation Depth, and Giants’ Draft Options

Stamford, CT: There is a lot going on in the world of sports at present. I’m looking at the NCAA tournament, a Kaapo Kakko sighting at MSG, the Yankees’ Rotation Coming Together, and the Giants’ draft options. Let’s go buzzing.

March Drowsiness

Your bracket is so busted, Lady Liberty blew out her torch so she wouldn’t have to look at it. Without teams like Duke and Kentucky, it was a weird tourney from the get. Throw in some big upsets and the remaining field looks like a list of bubble teams for the NIT Tournament.

This tournament was over for me as soon as the possibility of Oral Roberts playing Morehead State was off the table. Did I tell you I recently turned 50?

Kaapo Kakko Sighting

Kaapo had two goals last night, both on passes from Artemi Panarin. It took the entire Rangers’ coaching staff to go on to the Covid list for someone to figure out that it might be a good idea to put the hot shot youngster on a line with one of the best passers in the world. How about that? Someone tell David Quinn.

This team is gonna make the playoffs.

Yankees’ Pitching Staff Coming Together

The Yankees’ staff has a lot of question marks, but it looks to be coming together. With German and Deivi Garcia both looking like viable options along with Cole, Kluber, Taillon, and Montgomery, look for the team to get creative. Expect the Yankees to work in some of the Rays’ tactics to try to lighten the load on their youngsters and the two starters coming off injuries. All six starters will get work.

But don’t look for Cole to get Snelled too often. He’ll be the horse.

Giants New Draft Options

The Giants signed CB Adoree Jackson to start alongside James Bradberry. Add that to the signing of Kenny Golladay, where Dave Gettleman won a bidding war against himself, and the Giants have addressed two of their main needs in free agency.

Gettleman & Co now have options at number 11. They’ve vowed to give Jones more weapons, so they could still grab a receiver from the Pitts, Smith, Chase, Waddle group if one of them is still there. Throw one of those guys into the mix with a healthy Golladay and Barkley, and Holy Bavaro, you’ve got an eye popping group.

But, what good are skill players with Jones flat on his back? What good is a second CB if the other team’s QB can sit in the pocket all day? The never ending quest to fix the offensive line continues. And they could really use a pass rusher. Look for them to address one of those two spots in the first round.

That’s it for me. Come back tomorrow for Angry Ward, who just signed a five year extension to his lifetime MTM contract. Follow us on Twitter at @BenWhit8, @MeetTheMatts, @Matt_McCarthy00, Instagram @MeetTheMatts and like our Facebook page, Meet The Matts.
