SPANISH HARLEM –New York Knicks fans can rejoice! Your favorite basketball team is back in the playoffs. As per the headline, it has been a long time since you saw your team compete in a postseason game. I went to sleep on Tuesday (more like Wednesday morning) feeling terrible after seeing the Knicks lose a tough game to the Los Angeles Lakers. It would of been fun to watch them clinch live but this still feels good. There was always that feeling that they could drop into the play-in games that see the 7th seed play the 10th, and blah blah blah. We don’t have to worry about that anymore, though, because the worst they can do is finish 6th in the conference.
This team has overachieved all season and they no longer surprise you when they play at a high level. Fans should be proud of them because they play hard every game and most times go down to wire with an opportunity to win. They have a budding star in Julius Randle but any player not named RJ Barrett is what many would deem a role player.
Derrick Rose has shown flashes of his stellar, younger self and helps make the Knicks fun to watch. But he is not the star player he once was. Numbers 1-12 play their role perfectly and some of these role players have provided big moments… guys like Reggie Bullock, Immanuel Quickley and Alec Burks were reason the Knickerbockers won games in the 4th quarter.
These are exciting times but my feelings are uneven because as of today, the Knicks would play the Milwaukee Bucks. That’s no easy task when you have to face the reigning two time MVP in Giannis Antetokounmpo. This could very well be a 1 and done but that won’t stop me from enjoying the moment(s). I love these guys, so I won’t think about the future and torture myself with what could be. My faith in this group will continue each game… who knows what can happen? Maybe they will surprise me/us again.
That’s it for me, come back tomorrow for Different Matt.
Until Next Time!
