Forget the Subway Series: Are The Yankees Mishandling Anthony Volpe?

SPANISH HARLEMAnthony Volpe has been a hot topic among fans and media lately. I have had countless conversations with a good friend and because of everything surrounding his play, I felt it was time to shed some light on this topic with everyone. With that, should the Yankees send Volpe Down?

At the time of this writing, Volpe is hitting .191 with 9 home runs and 22 RBIs. What is alarming is the 77 strikeouts versus 22 walks and sure, we all know he would have his ups and downs but how many downs can someone have before a change is made? I understand you want to allow the kid to make adjustments and grow, yet you also don’t want to hurt his development.

Coming out of Spring Training, Volpe earned the right to be the starting shortstop of the New York Yankees on opening day. There was no question he was the better player among IKF and Oswald Peraza but lately, Peraza has been having a good season in Triple-A but is still stuck behind a struggling Volpe. Is that fair to say that Peraza is the better player right now while facing inferior pitching, possibly not? The real question is that we don’t know what Peraza would have done statistically with the same leash that Volpe has been given. I am not here saying that you give up on Volpe, all I am asking is… why not Peraza?

Buddy Diaz

I really liked both players as prospects and there is nothing, I want more for the New York Yankees than young exciting players that I can root for years to come. I like both to succeed and be the foundation of this team so I hope that the Yankees know what they are doing because I would hate to see these players misused.
