Pat Mahomes: Mets fan

HOLBROOK, NY – Football’s over, baseball is just around the corner. Before anything else happens, here are today’s topics: One More Super Bowl Recap, NBA All-Star Weekend, Genesis Invitational.

One More Super Bowl Recap

This was supposed to be a down year for the Chiefs. Mahomes’ cap hit was larger than it had ever been. The WR group was horrific all year, and the offense looked inept throughout the regular season. Yet, the new generation of star QBs like Burrow, Allen, Lamar Jackson may end up with very few Super Bowls due to the fact they ended up in the same era as Mahomes. If it wasn’t certain before it is now; Patrick Mahomes is the greatest QB in the history of the NFL. There is no player who has ever elevated the players around him the way Mahomes does. Having said that, the Chiefs defense was remarkable all season long. Steve Spagnolo had the perfect scheme to limit the 49ers dynamic offense.

NBA All-Star Weekend

Damian Lillard won the 3-point contest and Mac McClung won the Dunk contest. In all honesty, All-Star Weekend has lost a lot of its appeal. Two out of the 4 players in the Dunk contest play in the G-league. Through the years, the Dunk contest was always the most exciting event of All-Star Weekend. The star players like LeBron, KD, Westbrook, etc., never participated over the years… but it didn’t matter. The Dunk contest always garnered attention. We all remember the legendary performances from Blake Griffin, Nate Robinson, Aaron Gordon, Zach Lavine. I’d personally love to see in the future star players start to participate and hopefully bring the dunk contest back to life.

Jacob Sternberg

Genesis Invitational

Making his first appearance of the 2024 season, Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw during the middle of his second round due to an illness. Prior to the WD, Tiger was +2 and outside the projected cut-line. There’s a chance we see Tiger again before the Masters – likely at the Players Championship if at all. Entering Sunday’s final round Patrick Cantlay holds the 54 hole lead at -14 over Xander Schauffele and Will Zalatoris who are each -12.
