SPANISH HARLEM – After having a great season to capture the 2nd seed in the eastern conference, the New York Knicks deserve their flowers. Tom Thibodeau deserves all the praise he is getting for finding ways to win through all the injuries they endured. With that said, there are a couple of players that I want to highlight in this article.
DONTE DIVENCENZO
When he first signed the contract in the off-season, we all known he was another Villanova Wildcat that would mesh well and provide instant offense off the bench. What we didn’t know was that he would eventually become a starter and an integral piece to the rotation once Julius Randle was out. He played above and beyond anyone’s expectations and provided excellent outside shooting, leading the franchise records for 3-pointers made and attempted.
ISAIAH HARTENSTEIN
When Mitchell Robinson Injured his ankle, he was playing the best ball of his career, but Isaiah Hartenstein might have matched him and exceeded him, with possibly the best season of his career. While Hartenstein has had to deal with injuries as well, he is still the anchor and protector needed to make this defense hum along.
OG ANUNOBY
Where would this be without OG? Once he arrived the Knicks became a well-oiled machine and made even the best teams in the league look average. Does anyone remember that night the Knicks blew out the Denver Nuggets? Well, that does not happen without Anunoby. He plays defense on every team’s best player and still finds ways to help this team on offense.
JALEN BRUNSON
I’m not saying that Brunson should be the league MVP but saying that he is not worthy of some votes is downright awful. He is the main reason the Knicks are where they are as the 2 seed, and he only got better as the year went along. Even after all the injuries that this team had, he was glue that kept them together and made them competitive on a nightly basis. No person deserves more credit for this group accomplishment and hopefully we will him among the group nominated for MVP.
That’s it for now, come back tomorrow for Jackson Sternberg.
