PORT JEFF, NY- Greetings, let’s talk some NY baseball: Subway Series Reactions, Banter

Mets

Five days ago after losing game one of the double header to the Brewers, it seemed like the Mets season was headed in the wrong direction. The Mets would then put a 5 spot up against one of the best pitchers in baseball Jacob Misirowski and take the night cap from Milwaukee. The Mets would take the final game from the brewers and then turn that momentum into two huge victories against the Yankees. I can’t remember two bigger regular season wins this team has had in recent years. This is the most impressive stretch of games this team has had this season. They’ve been decimated by injuries in the starting rotation and battled through adversity for the last month and have come out a better and tougher team. With Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo returning to peak form this lineup is among the best in baseball. Once Senga and Manaea return this is easily one of the best teams in baseball.

During the Mets brutal 3-14 stretch they were very lucky in that the Phillies were also struggling and failed to build a substantial lead. The Yankees haven’t had the same luck. While they’ve played their worst baseball of the season losing six in a row, the Blue Jays have caught fire winning nine of ten and taking a three game lead of first place in the AL East. If things weren’t bad enough, it came out yesterday that Clarke Schmidt will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the 2025 season.  Absolutely nothing is going this teams way at the moment, Aaron Judge is being bludgeoned by stray baseballs, it’s utter chaos at the moment. On the bright side, the lineup has mostly been solid including Jason Dominguez who appears to be breaking out in a big way and emerging as this team’s leadoff hitter. If they can add an arm in the rotation and the bullpen, there’s no reason to believe they can’t win the division.
