Niagara Falls, NY – Happy Monday, everybody. I swear I will get my lights up soon; I just keep putting it off. It’s a pain, and it’s not even real lights—it’s that whole light show spotlight on the house thing. Anyway, let’s get to it. You know the routine: we’re going to talk about a Jets loss, the week for the New York Knicks and what’s coming up, as well as the New York Rangers.
NY Jets
The Jets’ defense was embarrassed in a whole new fashion in the loss to Jacksonville.
Last week, the Jets defense got completely run over. The Jets linebackers were way too slow again, biting on play action and allowing the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence—who should be the Jets’ QB in an alternate universe—to do his thing. Lawrence threw for six touchdowns and just torched the Jets.
The Jets’ offense was led by undrafted free agent Brady Cook, who was able to throw a touchdown but also threw three interceptions. The kid is trying to figure things out; I mean, the game is a lot faster at this level. Hopefully, he gets there.
NY Knicks
The New York Knicks were all about the NBA Cup this week. They beat Toronto in Toronto to book a date in Las Vegas for the semifinals, then—led by Jalen Brunson’s big game—beat the Orlando Magic to secure a place in the final. I will say watching those 2 games the biggest difference is how much Mike Brown is willing to go to his bench. He is using the every healthy body he has and trusts them to do their job. With the Cup final tonight, this can be the first piece of hardware the Knicks have won since… I don’t know, the Eastern Conference Championship in the early 2000s? It’s been a bunch of years.
NY Rangers
The New York Rangers had a short week, as they only played two games. They lost on the road to the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 and then came home and climbed out of a hole to tie and then beat the Montreal Canadiens in overtime 5-4.
They have a busy week ahead with three games at home and one on the road, so hopefully they can right their home form—or at least win those three. I’d definitely like a three-game winning streak to start getting some confidence back in this team. Their poor home form has already become well known, and hopefully, they can turn that around before mid-season, but we will see.
Come back tomorrow for more with our own Ben Whitney. He is apparently working on a serious of Franklin books about his middle school adventures, with titles including Franklin know that Johnny Jagabouski lied about his bike. Can’t wait to read them all.
