The Dread of Being a 2025-2026 Eagles Fan

SPANISH HARLEM – I usually don’t write about the Philadelphia Eagles because I know no one will read it. Plus, I’m more than sure that Eagles fans don’t look at MeetTheMatts.com as the go place for anything Philly-related, yet here I am. If there is one thing I know about New York fans, they love when Philly fans suffer. Good news: We are suffering.

There was the extreme high of winning a Super Bowl, beating a Kansas City team that beat us before and doing so in a blowout. It is one of the best feelings in the world and it can last months too, which is great. Then something hits you like a ton of bricks… Can they do it again, Can they repeat? Dread comes in because it’s super difficult to do so and the odds are against you. You know you have a great team, but you also ask yourself, ‘What is going to go wrong?’

You know it. You feel it. Because no matter how much they win, you’re still an Eagles fan. The world can’t be that good to Philly, right? The answer is no. It can’t. You win games and fans get reckless because the offense is talented but wasted. Every new offense coordinator promoted from within can’t seem to fully grasp how to run a functional offense. You dread every win, knowing that this offense should be better. You complain that it’s Jalen Hurts or Kevin Patullo… then its Nick Siriani’s fault.

I’m a New Yorker so the feeling is not overwhelming, yet reading anything Eagles-related feels like the world is about to end. It’s tough because you can’t enjoy the win when everybody wants to talk about how bad the offense has been. Spoiled? Maybe. How many fans wish they had a team like the Eagles the last 20 years? I never imagined they would ever sustain this level of success and with it comes some selfishness. You want more and more and more. You want to be the Patriots – or the Chiefs – and you hate when it doesn’t happen.

I sit here knowing full well, the Eagles could very much win the Super Bowl or lose this Sunday. That’s quite the gap and it’s of their own doing. They could have demoted or fired Patullo. Tried their hand with someone else. Maybe inject new life into an offense that hasn’t played well all season. BUT they didn’t. They choose to stay the course and that’s why every Eagles fan is on edge… why I am on edge.

This hasn’t been an easy season to watch, and it may be over soon… or they may just win the Super Bowl yet again.

That’s it for now, please come back tomorrow for more great content from Jackson Sternberg.
