MIAMI, FL – Another great World Baseball Classic was witnessed by the world. Also viewing these games were the General Managers who are on the payroll of Major League teams. They got to see the managers of Italy, Dominican Republic, USA and Venezuela lead their teams to the Final Four on guts and hunches.
No ANALytics got in their way of decision making. If a player of star status didn’t hit, he sat. Pitching changes were determined on who’s hot and who’s not!
The sad part is that the USA Manager, Mark DeRosa will go back to his gig on the MLB Network while Italy’s Francisco Cervelli and D.R. ‘s Albert Pujols will not be seen sharing their knowledge between the lines of any MLB team to start the 2026 season.
There were others like Nicaragua’s manager, Dusty Baker, the Netherlands’ Andrew Jones and Israel’s Ian Kinsler, who will remain out of the dugout while personnel from Driveline and numerous others, who never had a professional at bat or pitch thrown, lead these millionaire players of today.
To these clueless General Managers, along with their bosses, it was once a known fact that catchers made the best managers. The WBC had five former catchers in Italy’s Cervelli, Mexico’s Benji Molina, Puerto Rico’s Yadier Molina, Canada’s Ernie Whitt, and Australia’s Dave Nilsson, who will all join the club called, “Wasted Knowledge.”

Even the coaching staff was impressive with the USA employing Brian McCann, Michael Young, David Ross, Andy Pettitte and Matt Holiday. The champion Venezuela team had Miguel Cabrera, Johan Santana and Victor Martinez who all need not apply due to the fact that they are too experienced. The “Been There, Done That” sticker means absolutely nothing to this new breed of clueless geeks who rely on computers, yes men and polo shirts, khaki pants wearing geeks.
This is why this once great game, where batting average and strikeouts don’t matter, simply sucks!
