LeBron to Philadelphia
WOW. Of all the potential landing spots, I think this might be the most intriguing destination LeBron James could have chosen.
LeBron James will chase championship No. 5 in Philadelphia, joining what, on paper, is the best roster in the Eastern Conference. The Philadelphia 76ers already made a blockbuster move this offseason by acquiring Jaylen Brown, who now joins LeBron James alongside Tyrese Maxey, one of the league’s elite scorers, VJ Edgecombe, the highly touted lottery pick from a year ago, and perhaps the biggest “what if” in the NBA, Joel Embiid.
Over the last few seasons, Joel Embiid has been devastated by injuries, limiting his impact far more than anyone expected. But when healthy, he’s still one of the best players on the planet and remains firmly in the prime of his career. If Philadelphia can finally get a healthy season from him, the ceiling for this team is incredibly high.
As much as I hate to admit it as a Knicks fan, LeBron James seems to have positioned himself perfectly for one last legitimate championship run. He may no longer possess the overwhelming athleticism that defined his early years, but his basketball IQ, leadership, playmaking, and ability to dictate the tempo of a game remain second to none. He doesn’t need to average 30 points a night anymore. He simply needs to elevate everyone around him, and few players in NBA history have ever done that better.
The Eastern Conference suddenly looks loaded, this has all the makings of one of the most competitive seasons we’ve seen in years.
Opening night can’t come soon enough.
