AFC Picks and predictions
Bills– I think this is the year Josh Allen and the Bills finally breakthrough. They’ve moved on from Sean McDermott who as a defensive minded head coach failed consistently to produce good defenses. They’ve promoted OC Joe Brady to Head Coach and I think we’ll see a more aggressive team offensively with that. They’ve also added DJ Moore to bolster what’s been a very weak receiving core. I like this team and I love Josh Allen. I think he wins another MVP and the Bills go to the Super Bowl.
Ravens– Another team that’s brought in a fresh face to be their Head Coach. After nearly two decades of John Harbaugh the Ravens have moved on and brought in Jesse Minter. This could not be a better fit. Minter led the Chargers defense to become one of the best in football. The Ravens defenseshould instantly become a top half unit in the league which is certainly enough for Lamar Jackson to have a real chance at winning his first Super Bowl.
Texans– This team has an extremely wide range of outcomes this year. If CJ Stroud can get back anywhere near the level he played at as a rookie this team can legitimately win the Super Bowl. This defense is truly a special unit and I think with some improvement on the O-line we should see some improvement from them overall on offense. Tack on the addition of David Montgomery and if this offense is even league average they have a real chance to make a deep run.
Chiefs– I think we see a return to vintage Mahomes in 2026. The last few season we’ve seen a team that’s relied heavily on their defense to win them one score games. I think in what could very well be Andy Reid’s last season we see Mahomes air out it much like he did early in his career. I love the addition of Ken Walker, for the first time in his career, Mahomes will have a true talented workhorse running back that can be relied on.
Broncos– I have very little negative to say about this team. In all honestly if Bo Nix doesn’t get hurt in the divisional round, this team probably beats the Pats at home and goes to the Super Bowl. Another year for Bo Nix to fully come into his own under Sean Payton and now they’ve added a true elite receiver in Jaylen Waddle. They also still have an exceptional defense and a crucial home field advantage. I think the Broncos could very well compete for the division and at worst are the top Wild Card teams.
Bengals– This is a true make or break year for Zac Taylor. If this team doesn’t win a playoff game, Taylor is as good as gone. I don’t think he’s a particular good head coach and I was surprised they didn’t move on this past season. However the Bengals do have a lot in their favor this upcoming season. Joe Burrow enters the season fully healthy and their defense in the second half of the year was actually one of the best in football. They’ve added Dexter Lawrence to that side of the ball and if we see this unit continue to improve and even play at league average, Burrow can carry this team to a Super Bowl.
Patriots– While everyone expects some regression from the defending AFC champions, I actually think this team is better than the one they ran out a year ago. While they did have an extraordinarily easy schedule and path to the Super Bowl, they dealt with tons of injuries and now enter the year fully healthy and have now given Drake Maye a true number one receiver in AJ Brown. We’ve seen this many times in recent years where a star QB finally gets this caliber of receiver and it unlocks a level most might not even realize Maye can reach. It would not surprise me at all for Maye and the Pats to follow up their AFC title with another very strong season.
