PORT JEFF, NY – Happy Friday! Yippee!!! Okay, got that giddiness out of the way, now for today’s topice: Mets Trade Deadline Plans, Yanks Update, SummerSlam Build-Up.
Mets Trade Deadline Plans
Last week we talked about what the Mets definitely shouldn’t do at the trade deadline, and this week it’s about what’s more likely to happen. There have been rumors about Francisco Lindor being shopped, which is just ridiculous. Lindor is one of the best players in baseball and has been an elite shortstop since joining the Mets. He was sidelined with an injury earlier this year but is starting to find his rhythm again. The Mets aren’t going anywhere this season, but if they want to be competitive soon, they’re clearly better off keeping Lindor. The only players they should be trading are those on expiring contracts—Brooks Raley and A.J. Minter are obvious candidates. Luke Weaver, who has one more year after this season, could also be moved. Still, the Mets’ core is just starting to come together with Ewing, Benge, Lindor, and Soto, plus Nolan McLean and Christian Scott.
Yanks Update
The New York Yankees have hit their usual midseason slump after losing sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. While it was expected they might take a step back, a team with the Yankees’ resources would be expected to field a stronger lineup than they currently have. This leads into the trade deadline, where they could use some help on offense. Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers seems like a great fit as a right-handed bat to pair with Austin Wells, who’s been struggling. If they wanted another right-handed bat, maybe they should call the Angels to see if Mike Trout is available. There’s been a lot of talk about Trout possibly joining the Phillies, but the Yankees might make even more sense.
SummerSlam Build-Up
As we head toward one of the summer’s most exciting events, the road to SummerSlam is officially underway. Two major matches have already been announced: World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns will defend his title against Seth Rollins in a clash that’s been anticipated for nearly a decade, and Oba Femi will face Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell. While WWE has been missing some of its usual thunder lately, it’s safe to say this year’s SummerSlam will be packed with star power.
