Sports Rain Man: Jay Wright Retires, Barbaric Yankees Fans, Ben Simmons

EL BARRIO, EL FALLSHappy Monday, everyone! We had decent weather these past few days, so I took the kids to park and they enjoyed it, but I am exhausted. However, while I was out there, I got the sports updates that I needed for today’s topics. Without further ado, here are today’s topics: Jay Wright Retires, Barbaric Yankees Fans, Ben Simmons

Jay Wright Retires

If I was near our beloved Walter “Grinding Ax” Hynes, I would have given him a hug. We don’t agree on much but we do agree Jay Wright is a damn fine basketball coach and he will be missed at Villanova. Wright worked his way up assistant coaching gigs like all coaches. He then landed at Hofstra, where he went on to take “The Pride” to the NCAA tournament between 1994-2001, two times and the NIT once, while making them one of the top teams in the America East Conference. In 2001 he was named the head coach at Ax Man’s beloved Villanova. After inheriting a mediocre team he went on to three straight NIT tournaments to start. Then they started making the NCAA tournament and he took the team to sweet 16s and elite 8s. He built on those successes but suffered one season that was his worst ever – no postseason.  However, he bounced back to make the tournament. From there Wright got the Wildcats into the tournament a few more times and then to the final four and then went on to win the tittle. He would have a couple more Final fours and a second title. Wright is 60 and has given the sport all he has. It can be argued he is retiring at the age we are all meant to retire. I think he will have a great 2nd career in the booth providing great analysis. Who Villanova finds to replace him will be the question. Will they find a guy doing better in a small school or someone at mid-major that needs recognition.?

Barbaric Yankee Fans

I can just hear the guy from Casablanca saying “I am shocked! Shocked that there is gambling going on in this establishment.” A Cleveland Guardians outfielder crashes hard into the outfield wall and needs medical help. The savages that are Yankee fans make light of the situation, so one of the other Cleveland outfielders decided to jaw-jack with the savages. It got calmed down until the Guardians won the game then in the 9th inning. Being the sore losers they are, the Yankee fans decided to throw all manner of debris at the Guardian players. Yankee fans have always been garbage people and all this does is prove it.

Ben Simmons

I don’t know what to make of this guy anymore. I want to have some sympathy for him but he makes it hard. Since the Nets have traded for him, he has yet to play due to injury. Many hoped he would make a return just before playoffs, but that didn’t happen. There was a hope that he would make a return sometime in the first round. With the Nets down 3-0 in their series against the Celtics, there was rumors he would make his return in game 4, where he is desperately needed. However, it looks like he wont be available and the Nets will have to be shorthanded again.

Thanks for reading, feel free to comment below. Come back tomorrow for our Ben Whitney, who try to tell you that Yankees fans aren’t savage.
