ADELPHIA, NJ – Contenders and Pretenders alike all believe their teams are still “in it” this time of year. Around Major League Baseball many of these teams have been scrambling for trade deadline talent to help with postseason pushes. In spite of this off-field activity, not much is going on in pro sports right now that gets me jacked up. Because I am without Jack, and also without Jack, I will be rambling about a few topics that have been “grinding” at me over the last few weeks during my time on the DL. West Coast Craig‘s Hall Of Fame one-act play was better than the actual induction ceremony in Cooperstown, so I will pick on two of this year’s honorees.
“OK Joe” Torre – let’s face it, Joe is revered in New York for good reason but also across Baseball too as the epitome of a stand up guy. I think nearly anyone, even Small Matt-could have won four championships with the talent given to him by Gene Michael, Brian Cashman, and George Steinbrenner’s checkbook. So I agree with Joe’s comment that he would not be a HOFer without the Yanks. This Hobbyist writer believes that Torre purposely omitted kudos to George and his family during his awkward speech yesterday. This was Joe’s payback for the way the Steinbrenner family offered him a pay cut to return as manager back in 2008.
Tony La Russa- First let me say that LaRussa deserves his induction and was a winner as a Manager. His self deprecating speech showed a real humility that I found surprising from a guy with a self-loving reputation. The problem was that he was winging it completely! As he spoke, Tony scanned the crowd and sounded like a guy that was put on the spot, which we ALL know is not true. HUH? Well, he is a lawyer, after all.
Now for some NFL Pre-Season NONSENSE…….
Nobody BLOVIATES better than the Jets and they did not disappoint in the first week of training camp.
Dee Milner started it off with “I’m the best corner in the NFL” WOW!
Tony “Big Game” Romo was asked about his relationship with Dez Bryant . Always the diplomat (BS-er extraordinaire) Tony said if he were to get married today, Dez would be in his wedding….
Can’t wait for the first game (possession?) that Dez is NOT getting any attention.
ESPN- While I appreciate the ability to watch sports news at anytime during a 24 hour day, I really can’t stomach those commercials and promos that they air constantly! Self-serving much?
I find myself watching more and more of the NFL Network and MLB Network just because of those hideous ESPN promos.
I personally cannot stomach Mike Greenberg!! I’ve never liked the unathletic wimpy geek, trying to draw attention to himself in a sports forum….
Who are your LEAST favorite TV sports personalities? Bring me your ANGST! Cause I can’t stand “Greenie!”
Tune in for Angry Ward Wednesday tomorrow..
