SPAC – Aside from putting the newspaper together yesterday at work, I spent the majority of my weekend at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. witnessing Dave Matthews Band do their legendary two-day set.
With that being said, I’ve decided to spice up my usual Ebs’ Hot Takes with a little DMB flair. I’m going to break down a few DMB tunes and relate them to some of today’s hottest topics in sports. Enjoy!
#41: This song has the New York Knicks written all over it. This tune is obviously about the Knicks’ hopes in free agency and how they hoped to lure some of the top free agents this summer, but instead of bringing in guys like Kevin Love and LaMarcus Aldridge, Phil brought in Robin Lopez. Maybe next year guys.
American Baby: I think it’s fair to say that this next tune is about the United States Women’s National Team, and Abby Wambach in particular. The United States won its first FIFA Women’s World Cup title since 1999, letting its longtime leader go out on top.
Two Step: If this doesn’t scream Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees, than I don’t know what does.
“Oh , my love I came to you with best intentions. You laid down down and gave to me just what I’m seeking. Celebrate we will, because life is short but sweet for certain. We’re climbing two by two to be sure these days continue. Things we cannot change…” – A-Rod to Joe Girardi at the beginning of the season.
Burning Down The House: No, this isn’t a DMB song, but they do a great cover. These lyrics spell Greg Popovich. I see you Pop, I see you! The addition of LaMarcus Aldridge was HUGE for the San Antonio Spurs this off-season! They’ll be the Western Conference favorite next year.
You & Me: Jack Eichel. After the pain Buffalo Sabres fans (myself included) felt throughout the regular season this past winter and spring, NHL Draft weekend was all worth it. With the additions of Eichel and Ryan O’Rielly, the Sabres have cut their rebuild in half.
That’s it for now, please comment below and look for Big Al Sternberg/Fake Sandy Alderson calling out NY Haters snubbing the Yanks and Mets in the All-Star voting.
