EAST LANSING, MI – There are few bigger sports rivalries than Michigan State vs Michigan. And with this being #RivalryWeekend, this small town is upside down. Spartans vs Wolverines, it don’t get much better. Saturday football in the fall. But what the heck is all this about Friday Night Lights, you ask? Glad you asked. See, this thing called Rugby is actually taking hold in ‘Merica – and this storied rivalry is front and center in #TheMovement.
Enter MLB affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, the Lansing Lugnuts. They have a jewel of a Minor League ballpark, Cooley Law School Stadium, that they’ve eagerly converted into a rugby venue for tonight’s battle. The charm of Class A park, a storied rivalry and rugby. Pretty cool stuff.

Anyway, it means something when two huge schools, MLB and a town all recognize that a sport is worthy of their attention. Open your minds to rugby, sports fans. It’s fun, physical and filled with great stories and subplots. In fact, the opposing coaches, Michigan State’s Tim Britain and Brandon Sparks of Michigan, were actually teammates at one point. Sparks also happens to be a MMA fighter. His Wolverines will need some of that MMA moxie if they’re going to get by the favored Spartans. Tune in, it should be a dandy.
