SPANISH HARLEM – The NFL Draft is tomorrow and at least for one day, some scheduled programming when it comes to what we expect from sports. It will be different in every sense of the word, with teams making their choices in odd places. I can’t speak for everybody but I’m sure there are a few of you that want to see how well this goes for everyone or will be watching hoping for a train wreck. Both would make for good television but the best situation would be for everything to go according to plan.
Let’s get into some news that have caught my attention:
Who Will Draft Tua Tagovailoa?
Quarterbacks in the NFL are considered the most important position in football, and rightfully so. Make the right choice and your team is set up for a decade but making the wrong choice will have your team scrambling for years. That’s why the questions about Tua Tagovailoa’s injury history are magnified. While I think he will be drafted in the top five, the injuries have him going from being the number 1 pick in the draft to possibly the 3rd quarterback taken.
Tua’s last injury has become the talk of the NFL. With a dislocated right hip, many draft analysts are detailing the fears that some teams may have with taking someone with that specific injury. If you’re as old as me, you remember Bo Jackson dislocating his hip and never quite being the same. He was a shell of his former self in baseball and retired from football soon after the injury. I know medical science has evolved since then but it’s only logical that teams are worried about what they are getting with Tua.
Do the Philadelphia Eagles Trade Up For a Wide Receiver?
Well, I would be lying if I said if this wasn’t personal for me being an Eagles fan but it also makes for great news. Trading up in the draft can impact your current and future drafts depending on what you give up to get into a position to take the player you want. In this case, the rumors have the Eagles trading up to get one of the top 3 receivers in the draft. The name I hear the most is CeeDee Lamb but Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs are also mentioned. Where they trade up to and who is still on the board when they draft will impact what other teams ask for, so I will be curious to see how everything goes.
On the other side of all this, Howie Roseman (he shoulda been a doctor!) may want trade down if the asking price is too high and add more picks. Not the exciting news you want to hear if you’re an Eagles fans but it could be the best move to make. Adding more picks, gives you more options to look at and more positions to fill in the process. This draft is considered heavy on the wide-outs so there is a good chance that you can find a great player outside of the top 3. This team is old and needs the influx of young players to develop and that doesn’t take away the fact that you still need help at linebacker and corner.
