“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” -Michael Corleone
SPANISH HARLEM – There is a lot to be said about this week in sports (Yankees MLB Playoffs Pain, Hate For The Rays, Knicks, NBA Draft) but it’s 1 AM while I’m typing and I need to get some sleep… so let’s jump right into it!
The New York Yankees
I had myself convinced I wouldn’t care about this #COVID19 season… and I almost made it. But the f**king postseason got to me. It started off okay, as I didn’t care much about the Cleveland Indians series. The usual butterflies that comes from watching MLB Playoff games was not there. We could of lost to Cleveland and I would of been fine. I would told myself there always next year. Instead, the Yanks won and moved on to play the Tampa Bay Rays and… they pull me me back in. I hate the Rays. They totally outplayed us in the regular season and this was our chance for payback. It didn’t go that way, as we all know, and I couldn’t be more pissed off. It actually took me a couple days because I would wake up moody and couldn’t realize why… then it hit me when I saw the ALCS being previewed on television… It was sh*t season for the Yankees, now I’m glad its over!
The New York Knicks
With the season over in the NBA, we can now focus on the off-season for a bit and if you’re the Knicks, it’s another year to focus on the NBA Draft. It seems like a ritual now; you pray the team finally drafts someone that helps make them better. You want a superstar but there aren’t many elite players in this draft. It’s considered a down year for the elites – no one stands above the rest (figuratively). Some experts wouldn’t be surprised if any number of players projected to go in the lottery landed as the number one pick and that’s rare.
That’s not rare in a good way, though, and while the Knicks love LaMelo Ball, there is no shot he will be there when they pick 8th overall. LaMelo is considered at Top 3 Pick at best and a Top 5 Pick at worst. The Knickerbockers will need to trade up to get him and there have been rumors that the organization is actively looking for ways move up. My feeling is they shouldn’t trade assets for Ball. The kid has gifted handle and excellent floor vision but don’t mortgage the future for a BALL. We know that the father is somewhat crazy and even scary at times, so you don’t want that extra media attention, especially if your Leon Rose. The best would be to stand pat and pick the guy you like the most in that spot or trade back and acquire more picks if possible, to better your chances of nailing a high quality player on November 18th (projected date). Let’s not forget, that some true gems have been found later in the drafts, so be smart and hope for the best.
Speaking of gems, come back tomorrow for Different Matt… and leave your thoughts below.
