PORT JEFFERSON, NY– Greetings, let’s hop right into today’s topic’s. Mets Hot Streak, NBA Finals, Rodgers Still AWOL, U.S Open Final Round
Mets Hot Streak
Don’t look now but the New York Mets are winners of four straight and 8 of 10. Maybe it’s the return of Edwin Diaz. Maybe it’s Francisco Lindor heating up, or maybe it’s Grimace (click). While still five games below .500 at 32-37, they sit just two games out of the final Wild Card spot. While I still have my doubts that this team is good enough to compete, the fact remains true that the National League is horrifically weak –as Angry Ward pointed out this week – with just four teams above .500. I still believe they should sell off some players at the deadline because I don’t see them being a serious contender. I doubt ownership will even consider trading away players, though, if there’s any chance of making the playoffs.
NBA Finals
This has been a really disappointing finals showing for the Mavericks. Kyrie and Luka have mostly been good (on offense), however their supporting cast has been truly abysmal. Luka has to stop screaming at the refs after every play, it’s insufferable to watch as he completely ignores getting back on defense. For the Celtics, they’ve played incredible team basketball with Jayson Tatum struggling to shoot the basketball. I know the series isn’t over yet, but I expect #Boston to make quick work of #Dallas in game 5.
Rodgers Still AWOL
Aaron Rodgers was notably absent from off-season workouts this past week. I wouldn’t overreact too much to this news. However, it is a little troubling considering Rodgers himself stated at the end of last season that. “BS that has nothing to do with winning, has to get out of the building.” I remain very skeptical of the Jets coming into the season. Rodgers is 41-years-old and coming off the most famous torn Achilles ever. Are we sure he’s even close to his former self? Not to mention the AFC is absolutely loaded from top to bottom.
U.S. Open
Bryson DeChambeau leads heading into the final round at -7 with Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, and Matthieu Pavon in a tie for 2nd at -4. A win would be Bryson’s second U.S. Open win and solidify him back at the top of the world of golf. I don’t view Cantlay or Pavon as serious chasers, leaving Rory as the one to hunt down Bryson. This is incredibly Rory’s 7th consecutive #USOpen inside the top seven heading into the final round and as good a chance as any for him to claim his first major since 2014.
