PORT JEFF, NY – We’ve got sports stuff to discus. Let’s get to it: Home Run Derby Picks, Mets First Half, MLB Trade Rumors.
The Home Run Derby
One of baseball’s most exciting annual events features a star-studded lineup including Ronald Acuna Jr., Cal Raleigh, and Oneil Cruz. With so much talent, it’s tough to choose just one favorite, but my pick this year is Rays rookie third baseman Junior Caminero. In his first full season, the 21-year-old showcases incredible bat-to-ball skills, making him a strong contender and a trendy choice to win the derby in his debut appearance.
Mets First Half
The Mets are wrapping up a wild first half of the season, navigating through a deep slump from prized free agent Juan Soto and multiple pitching injuries to their top arms, Senga and Manaea. However, the emergence of David Peterson as another top-tier starter has helped them piece together a rotation that keeps them competitive in nearly every game. Heading into the break, the Mets find themselves firmly in the playoff race and right in the mix for the NL East, closely trailing the Phillies. We won’t mention yesterday’s doubleheader loss to the O’s.
MLB Trade Rumors

The rumor mill is churning, and it’s always an exciting time if your team is in the mix to add pieces at the deadline. For the Mets and Yankees, their needs are pretty similar: third base and starting pitching. Could be game-changers for both. One third baseman both New York teams have reportedly shown interest in is Eugenio Suárez of the Diamondbacks. However, Arizona finds itself in a tricky spot, as they’re contending for a wild card spot and boast one of the best offenses in baseball. There’s a case to be made for the Diamondbacks to pursue pitching to stay in the race. Another name being floated is Mitch Keller of the Pirates, a reliable veteran starter who could be an ideal number three starter on a playoff team. With the deadline not until the 31st, there’s still plenty of time for surprises, so let the speculation begin!
