Mets Struggling and Scheffler’s Dominance

PORT JEFF, NY – Greetings. Baseball is finally back! Let’s talk about it… and some golf: Mets Struggling and Scheffler’s Dominance

Mets Struggling

Two very frustrating losses out of the all star break, with the offense leaving a combined 17 runners on base in the two games. I’m not worried about this offense, if anything I think they’re in store for a big second half with everybody healthy and seemingly finding their stride. The only concern I have for this team at the moment is how the rotation will hold up in the second half. David Peterson, fresh off an All-Star appearance, has been this team’s ace. Behind him their are a lot of question marks. Can Senga stay healthy? Will Manaea return to his 2024 form? Then there’s Clay Holmes, who has never thrown this many innings as a starter. How long can he hold up? And is moving him to the bullpen later in the season a viable option? I think moving Holmes back to the bullpen down the stretch and trading for another front line starting pitcher could be exactly what this team needs to get over the hump.

Scheffler’s Dominance

Jacob Sternberg

Scottie Scheffler leads the British Open by four shots entering the final round at -14 under par. There are no words to describe how incredible Scheffler is. With a win almost a foregone conclusion he’ll be just a U.S. Open shy of completing the career grand slam at just 29 years old next June. It’s hard to put into perspective where Scheffler ranks among the all time greats, but he’s certainly cracking the top 10 id say. The run of golf we’ve seen from him since his first win on tour in February of 2022 is among the best we’ve ever seen. In that time frame he’s won 16 times including three majors (four with a win today) and collected over 60 top 10s. There are no off weeks with Scheffler. He either shows up with his C game and contends every tournament or shows up with his A game like he did this week and wins by a field goal. In a year where Rory McIlroy won three times and finally broke through and won the masters, Scheffler has found a way to out shine the Northern Irishman and reign supreme as the unquestioned best player in the world
