SPANISH HARLEM – I keep asking myself, “Is Aaron Boone a good manager? The reason I ask myself this is because I’m sure, like many Yankees fans, I will not shed a tear if he is no longer the manager moving forward. With that said, there is more about this than what is on the surface.

Let’s first by saying this was Brian Cashman’s “guy,” after letting Joe Girardi following his series loss to the Houston Astros in ALDS. This was Cashman’s way to integrate himself into making decisions that should be left only to the manager. Boone is a puppet to Cashman’s analytics, and we all know this to be. It doesn’t need to be said out loud but you heard the whisper’s before he was hired as manager, that Cashman wanted more control over the product on the field. He got that control with Boone and I don’t think any other manager would allow something like before or after Boone. Which is to say that Boone will be back in the fold next year.

Here is what we know Boone is good at, protecting his players and being a more friendly player manager. We also know his game time decisions have been bad and in almost every series in the playoffs, the other managers seem to out coach him. I don’t think that Boone gets to manage this club like almost every other manager in baseball. He does what he is told to do on the field, from making the batting order, to what reliever is available game to game.

Do I think that is Aaron Boone is good manager? I really truly don’t know because I don’t think he is allowed to manage to his liking but Cashman’s liking. Maybe one day, if he ever gets another job to be manager and is given the opportunity to call the shots, then maybe we will find out.

That’s it for now, please come back tomorrow for more great content from Jackson Sternberg.
