SPANISH HARLEM – Hello and welcome to today’s column, where we start in the days leading up to the Knicks opener, and step through time to the Post-Game Reaction.
It’s Tuesday, actually in the wee hours of Angry Ward Wednesday… the New York Knicks are already dealing with significant injuries to their roster. On Tuesday, the news came down that Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson will be inactive for home opener. Hart was a given not to participate, as he is yet to practice, but Robinson is the most worrisome because of his injury history.
To make matters worse, I just got a notification on my phone that Karl-Anthony Towns is doubtful, and I don’t expect Mike Brown to take any chances this early in the season. While this news cycle is not good for the Knicks, we still have a full season ahead of us. That’s not saying that this team is destined to lose this game, as I fully expect the crowd at MSG to bring the energy no matter who is on the court, which should add extra motivation.

Post-Game Reaction
I know it’s hard to believe that your first win of the season could be a great win, but it was, let me explain.
KAT started and played well, considering the news that came out before the game. Mike Brown played 11 players (you read that right… 11 PLAYERS) and that didn’t include the aforementioned Robinson and Hart, who played where in street clothes. Jalen Brunson didn’t play particularly well but did just enough to play his type of game and scoring over 20 points. OG Anunoby was your best your player and high scorer, getting rebounds and playing the type of defense you expect from him. Mikal was all over the place on defense and was the lead ball-handler on may possessions.

All in all, still a great win against a Cleveland Cavs team that dealt with injuries to key players themselves but what made this a great win, is that it was a great TEAM win. Everybody that played contributed in some shape or form, even Tyler Kolek played meaningful minutes and gave them a spark in the second half spark. The ball was flowing, leading to open looks. All a sharp contrast from the offense in prior years.
I could continue with more, but I have to get back to work.
That’s it for now, please come back tomorrow for more great content from Jackson Sternberg.
