Big Ben Tuesday: Should the Giants Trade Dart and Draft a QB?

NOTE from Junoir Blaber: Big Ben  Whitney is living his own version of Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and Jenny Kringlehorn was unavailable, so he asked me to post this brilliant piece for him. Without further adieu, here is Big Ben’s piece.

DETROIT, MI – Happy New Year from Michigan! Times are tough here as they lament the crumbling of the Lions. The Lions are like Seinfeld after Larry David left. Oh I get it now, he (Larry David, Ben Johnson) was the guy driving the wagon. But I’m here to discuss young Jaxson Dart, and the crazy possibility of the Giants drafting another rookie QB and moving on from him already. Nutso, says me.

There seems to be a big debate as to whether the Giants should move on from Dart and take a QB with the #1 or #2 pick. To me, that’s madness. Roll with Dart. He’s shown enough.

First off, the Giants need to make sure to lose their last game against the Cowboys. There are a lot of teams in the 3 or 4 win range and Big Blue could drop a few key spots with a win. They nearly beat the Cowboys already and this would be a very Giants game to win. See the Tommy Devito win over Green Bay that cost them Drake Maye.

It behooves the Giants to stay at #2 so maybe they can trade back with a team looking at Dante Moore. Moore seems to be the kind of talented, athletic QB that teams fall in love with in the draft process.

In 11 starts, Dart has 13 TD passes and 9 rushing TDs with only 5 interceptions. In a rookie year, with a limited supporting cast, 2 TDs a game with less than a half an interception works just fine. Where he’s really made a difference is on third down and in the red zone. The guy makes plays.

Let’s gooo

The risk is obviously Dart’s seeming unwillingness to avoid big hits. The concussion checks are real. But you don’t bail on a guy because he’s a fierce competitor. That’s a pro not a con. He’s at his best when he’s scrambling and they’re mixing in designed runs, so his game comes with risk.

Could his career get short circuited from him taking a monster hit trying to get an extra meaningless yard in a game the Giants are up by 20 with 2 minutes left? Sure it could. But this would be the lamest reason to go the Kyler Murray route and move on. Oh no, he plays too hard let’s get rid of him. It’s better to live one season as a wolf than a decade as a sheep.

The Giants do have a few pieces to build around, assuming Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers can return to full strength. The offseason plan for the Giants should be to get a competent coach, fix the defense, resign Wandale Robinson, and continue to add depth to both lines. Oh yeah, and find someone who can teach Dart to get down/out of bounds!

This could be a decent team quickly. Especially if they actually get a last place schedule next year, instead of the hardest sched in the league again.

That’s it for me. Maybe your 2026 be filled with Jalen Brunson step back threes and very few Mitchell Robinson free throws. All the best to you and yours.

Come back tomorrow for the Angry One.
