Port Jeff NY- Greetings and Happy Holidays to all! Let’s talk about some glaring issues in the NFL.
The Tank Bowl
In a league that makes billions of dollars a year and prides itself on putting an exceptional product on the field for all 32 teams, what we’ve witnessed in not just the final weeks of the 2025 NFL season but the season as a whole is a troubling distortion of the current state of the league. Leading up to week 17, the Giants and Raiders who play today have traded ruling out star players like Andrew Thomas, Maxx Crosby and Brock Bowers. Now in theory, what they’re doing makes complete sense, these players have been dealing with nagging injuries all year and have essentially nothing to play for in the final two games. However, these guys are making egregious amounts of money and the idea of franchises sitting players when they’re capable of playing just doesn’t sit right. These are two franchises that have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in their history, but have been among the worst teams in the sport for well over a decade. I’m not sure what the answer to this problem is, maybe the league needs to get involved when franchises are comically bad for this long.

In addition to the tanking issue, another noticeable issue that’s been highlighted over the last few weeks is the true lack of talent at the QB position and how poorly the talent at the college level is translating to the NFL. A perfect example of this is the Colts signing a 44 year old Philip Rivers to be their QB in the final stretch of the season. In all fairness, Rivers hasn’t been a total disaster. He knows how to read a defense and get the ball out fast. What he does lack is any ability to push the ball down the field. I simply can’t fathom how the lack of depth/talent in the pool of Quarterbacks can be so weak. I think what it all boils down to is frankly poor coaching. We’ve all played the how good would this guy be if he were coached by Kyle Shanahan or Ben Johnson or any of the elite offensive gurus that are clearly very hard to come by. We’ve seen countless Quarterbacks flame out because they’re drafted into poor situation with coaches who have no idea how to prepare a QB to succeed at the pro level. I think a lot of this can also be attributed to so many coaches who refuse to adapt to the new offensive style that’s needed to win games and succeed in this league. Now of course this is the NFL, and virtually nothing can really hurt its ratings or hinder its revenue. However, I do worry about the current state of the league and how poor the product has been for most teams this season.
