PORT JEFF, NY – it’s officially/finally March Madness time. Let’s go! With that, here are today’s topics: March Madness Rundown, Farewell to Howie Rose
March Madness Rundown
Truly, one of the year’s best days is when March Madness begins. It’s when there is basketball from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed… Thursday was as entertaining as you will find. The Madness started at 12 PM in a game which saw TCU vs Ohio State. As if we needed any more reason to look forward to the next 3 weeks, the first game was a classic. TCU went up by as much as 15 early, only to see the Buckeyes storm back to take a late lead. The Horned Frogs were able to pull this one out 68-66 in a thriller.
We also had our first upset of the NCAA tournament, as High Point took down Wisconsin in a 83-82, up and down match. Coming into this tournament there was some doubt as to if “Cinderella” would still exist with NIL taking over the sport and not giving teams like High Point much of a chance. This win proves that this tournament is still amazing, and that anything can truly happen. We also saw 16-seed Siena give the number one overall seed, Duke, all they can handle. The Saints were up by as much as 14 and had the whole world believing that they could do the impossible.
St. Johns vs Northern Iowa
We have to touch on my favorite team, for the second straight season, the Red Storm have won the big east tournament, in a 72-52 thrashing of UConn the Johnnies punched their ticket, the Johnnies will take on northern Iowa from the Missouri Valley conference, the Panthers are one of the most elite defensive teams in the country, this will be a very physical, Big East like game, safe to say it will NOT be easy.
Farewell to Howie Rose

Speaking of legends and superstars, we’re going to bidding a farewell to Howie Rose. The great Howie Rose will retire from his NY Mets radio position after this season. Die-hard Mets fans (myself included) have been blessed with many great announcers, but Howie rose holds a special place in my heart. Same for the rest of my family. My dad, Big Al Sternberg (aka Fake Sandy Alderson), attended camp when he was a kid and was greeted by a counselor named Howie Rose. Decades later, Rose still remembered him. I know for a fact how much of an impact sports has on people’s lives. I hope our beloved Metros can make his last season one to remember.
