BRONX, NY – The NY Yankees announced that rapper Jay-Z will perform at their stadium for three shows in July. The same Jay-Z who held the first concert at the new corporate Yankee Stadium back in 2010.
As detailed in my book, Henry & Me: The Most Interesting Yankee that Nobody Knew, available on Amazon, it was the late Hank Steinbrenner, who orchestrated that initial show titled, The Home & Home Tour, with Eminem as the opening act.
Hank summoned me into his Tampa office and in front of Paul Schindler, an attorney for Live Nation asked me if Jay-Z could sell out his stadium. I responded, “In ten minutes!” The skeptical Co-Chairman asked, “Are you sure?” Without hesitating I answered, “No doubt!”
Hank persisted with, “What if I add Eminem as the opener?” I countered with, “You don’t need Eminem to help Jay-Z sell out. You should have Eminem do a show of his own, and he’ll sell that one out too!” Schindler was loving my responses as his Joker-like smile spoke volumes. They shook hands on the deal and two shows by Hova sold out as soon as they went on sale.
Hank couldn’t believe people would actually spend money and listen to what he termed as, “Rap Crap!”
It will be six years on April 14th since Hank passed away, and the “Baby Boss” is dearly missed. The morons up in Da Bronx took full advantage of his death by taking over the asylum and taking advantage of soft Hal, Hank’s younger brother.
They convinced him that ANALytics is the way to go, and to that I respond with a number, 2009. That was the last time the Yankees were crowned champions.
Almost a trillion dollars has been spent on player payroll, only to have the ANALytic nerds hand in lineup cards with back to back to back power hitters producing strikeouts or solo home runs. They’re blind to the fact that their Supadupa Star, Aaron Judge, blasted 62 homers in 2022 in which 41 of them were solo shots.
I can feel my homie Henry from up above nodding his head side to side, as the geeks walk around comfortably without fear of the Steinbrenner wrath.
It’s been six years and I miss you, man!
