SPANISH HARLEM – There is something different about the city when the New York Knicks are a good team. Even when this organization didn’t know what they were doing, you could still see the fans going crazy in Madison Square Garden. Sure, a lot of times it was wasted energy because they weren’t good, but the fans were always loud when they needed to be.
Now you have fans at watch parties outside of MSG on home and away games. Mind you, those things are not for me, yet I understand the excitement. It was a long hard road for many of us to get here and I don’t think I ever felt the Knicks would ever be NBA championship contenders ever again but here we are. Two straight seasons of conference finals appearances though they are not out of the woods yet.
Cleveland and Detroit are trying to earn the right to be their next opponent, and I don’t think it will be as easy as it has seemed versus either team. Most people will probably tell you that Cleveland is the easier path to the Finals, but I really want Detriot. That is not to say that I don’t fear the Cavs because I do, anything is possible in the playoffs, yet I find myself wanting Detroit for selfish reasons. People thought the Pistons punked us in the regular season and for that I want revenge.
The Knicks are one more step closer to the NBA Finals and I have never seen a Knicks team play this well or have this type of run in playoffs but that is all behind them now. They have to look forward and understand that the hardest most challenging part will be the next series of front of them.
