SPANISH HARLEM – The Boston Red Sox will always be the most hated team in New York for Yankees fans but man…. the Houston Astros sure come close. Houston has had the upper hand against the Bombers in the MLB Playoffs and that only adds fuel to the fire. But most of all, the fans feel cheated. It took two years to let those feelings out because of COVID and everyone at Yankees Stadium is taking every opportunity to show the Stros that they haven’t forgotten.
Speaking of the fans, they have been the best – and probably the most important – part of this series. The anticipation and intensity was there from game 1, making this the first game in a long time that felt like the baseball we became Slot accustomed to pre-pandemic. It was fun to watch on television because you could actually hear a lot of the insults hurled Jose Altuve’s way. There is nothing like the Bronx when the fans are engaged; they get into every pitch and every hit because they want to see the Yanks beat, in this instance, the hated Astros.
On a side note… What in the living hell is going on with Giancarlo Stanton? I am completely confounded. We know he is historically streaky. For stretches you will see a guy that hits absolute bombs when hot, only to pull a 180 and strike out a ton when in a slump. What’s surprising now is that he is looking a complete hitter. He is doing a better impression of DJ LeMahieu than LeMahieu. You sometimes forget that he is a former National League MVP because he has missed a lot of time with different injuries. It’s will be interesting to see what he can do in full season if he can stay healthy.
The Yankees go for the sweep today with Gerrit Cole and it would be sweet to break out the brooms. Cole has been excellent so far this season and you come to expect the very best from him every start. He is the pitcher you want to see closing out this series. If you thought the fans were excited the last two games, wait until this afternoon. It should be rocking again and I’m kinda upset I won’t get to watch it live.
That’s it for now…. come back tomorrow for Cam James, who’ll be gloating about his Cardinals sucking the life out of the Mets.
Until Next Time!
