My beloved Metropolitans. Yesterday, in a stunning turn of events, GM Billy Eppler stepped down as the club’s General manager, I personally was not a fan of Eppler. Just last season, the Amazins were arguably the best team in baseball. Did they have some holes? Sure, that’s what the Trading Deadline is for. But what did Eppler do? Instead of going for it and grabbing a big league catcher or a proven lefty killer – like JD Martinez -or maybe another reliable reliever, he decided Darin Ruf and Daniel Vogelbach would be difference
makers. Not to mention missing on David Robertson – who went to Philly…
I understand that Billy was only
here for two seasons. He did do some good work; trading for Chris Bassitt, resigning Edwin Diaz
and Brandon Nimmo… but not going for it all in 2022 will always leave a bad taste in the mouths
of Mets fans.
